French Farmhouse Numbered Napkins

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered NapkinsI have another fun and easy project to share with you today…my French farmhouse numbered napkins! If you know me, you know I am always in search of ways to create a little frenchiness without spending a ton of money and these napkins do just that!

Ozzie My co-host today, our lovely CEO Miss Ozzie, suggested that I buy some plain white dinner napkins in bulk so that I would have enough for several projects. And…after a little search, I finally found them at Target at about $10 for a dozen…that’s about 80 cents each! They are not the thickest napkins but they have the feel of old linens.

The next step was to find the perfect graphic and it will come as no surprise that I found it at The Graphics Fairy! Karen was so kind as to share her lovely vintage French wreath with us so all I had to do was add the numbers! I have already reversed it for you so that it can be used as an iron-on transfer. I printed it at 8x10 size using Photoscape…a free downloadable photo editing program… and trimmed around each of the numbers. Some of you have asked what kind of transfer paper I use and it’s Avery Light Fabric Transfers. Simply follow the instructions on the package and apply the numbers to the napkins.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Numbered Napkins And here is the result! I only did numbers one through four for now, but I have given you through number eight in case you need more. And…hey!…you are not limited to napkins! Just think about all of the other things you could number!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered NapkinsAren’t they pretty? I love the vintage look! They are a wonderful complement to my mismatched collection of vintage silverplate flatware and dishes!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Numbered NapkinsAnd…I finally splurged ($12 is a splurge for me) and bought a vintage blue Ball canning jar with one of those wonderful old zinc lids…love it! It’s the perfect container for my flatware! I have gathered them all up in my French wire egg basket…a $2.00 find at Goodwill several years ago…before they were stylish. I love it! It’s the real deal…with the handles well-worn from years of use!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT DIY Vintage French Linens You may remember seeing my egg basket here…when I showed you how to turn inexpensive IKEA tea towels into vintage-look “monogrammed” French linens using iron-on transfers! Can you tell I love the look of old French linens?

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT French Farmhouse Numbered Napkins And here’s a final look! I simply rolled them so that the numbers show and tied them with some jute twine to add a little texture and a vintage feel. Now…all I need is a French farmhouse to go with my napkins!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my French farmhouse numbered napkins! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

Tiny French Treasures...and a Surprise!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Tiny French Treasures I am excited to show you my latest finds…wonderful little treasures from France! If you know me, you know I am always on the hunt for frenchiness…and these fabulous little lovelies are the real deal! I can’t wait to share them with you!

Vintage French Jeanne d'Arc pinThe first is my antique Jeanne d’Arc brooch which dates from around 1910. It represents my favorite historical figure…Saint Joan of Arc…dressed for battle in her armour and holding her banner and her coat of arms. On either side of her you can see the cross of Lorraine...the region of France that she called home and the same area where I lived! It truly is a tiny little treasure…only about an inch and a half wide. Now I have to get a hold of the French teacher in me or I will tell you waaay more about Joan of Arc than you ever wanted to know!

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Quimper cup and saucerMy second little treasure is this wonderful Henriot Quimper cup and saucer that I found in a near-by flea and antique market, thanks to my friend CC. If you know me, you know how I love my Quimper pottery!

BretonneThe front of the cup sports the traditional little Bretonne lady that I love so much! There were actually two of these cups and I was relieved to see that the other did not star her little Breton man or I would have had to buy him, too! When I see a pair of anything, I have difficulty buying just one! How can you leave one of them all alone?

Quimper cup and saucer with dragon handle But what really attracted me to the cup was this whimsical dragon handle! It is so unusual! A little research let me know that it dates from around 1930.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Quimper collection She just looks right at home among all of my other Quimper pieces, doesn’t she?  You can see more of my little Quimper collection here.

Amaryllis And now for the surprise! My amaryllis from Christmas before last is blooming! Isn’t it lovely? I had managed to get it to sprout again, but never to bloom, so I just put it in the garage all winter and ignored it.

Amaryllis blooms Then one day I happened to notice that new leaves were growing and it was beginning to bud! I found out that if you want it to bloom, you should keep it in a cool place and not water it. Woo hoo! Who knew that neglect was the key to getting it to bloom again!

Cat TVAnd just in case you are wondering about the staff…it seems that “cat TV” is waaaay more interesting than French antiques! I do believe spring has sprung since you can finally see a little green showing in the Bermuda grass. What about you? Are you seeing some signs of spring?

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my tiny French treasures! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

Fun and Easy Projects with Flower Pots

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Fun with Flower Pots Woo hoo! Spring has finally sprung in my neck of the woods! Sooo…all this pretty weather has me freshening up some of my favorite spring projects to use again this year. And…if you are like me and have a stash of flower pots, I have some fun ideas that I would like to share with you.

CONFESSIONS OF A PLATE ADDICT Chalkboard Flower Pots2_thumb[10] My first project is these cute chalkboard flower pots that I showed you earlier this spring. They are so much fun and easy to make! And with Mother’s Day not too far away, wouldn’t they make a great gift? Just fill with mom’s favorite flowers and finish them off with a sweet message for her! You can find a complete tutorial here.

Staff_thumb[8]Baby Kitty and Ozzie have a suggestion…how about filling one with catnip for your sweet furbabies of the feline persuasion?  Hmmm…I take it that is a hint for me!

044_thumb[20]Here’s another fun flower pot project…my little flower pot man! I have already spiffed him up and gotten him settled in near my patio. Here he is last year sporting creeping Jenny as hair. And the new favorite ‘do for this year? It’s creeping fig! You can find a tutorial for making him here.

flower pot wreath_thumb[13] And finally, and maybe my favorite, here’s my flower pot wreath!

Flower Pot WreathIt stayed on my front door all last summer and will soon be headed that way again!

flower pot wreath parts_thumb[5]All you need is a grapevine wreath, flower pots in assorted sizes, twine, floral foam and faux flowers to finish it off. You will find instructions for making it, including flower pot sizes, here.
And there you have it…my ideas for fun ways to use flower pots! And…if you are short on flower pots, I’ll bet that if you head out for the thrift stores and yard sales, you may find that your unsuspecting neighbors have give decided to part with theirs! Enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed a little peek at my flower pot projects! Please visit these wonderful bloggers and their beautiful blogs to see what they are up to and to find a list of this week’s participants!

Brunch with the Queen of Hearts

004This past Sunday I had the privilege of being invited to brunch with the Queen…the Queen of Hearts Antiques and Interiors in Alpharetta, Georgia, that is! If you have been following my blog for very long, you will know that it’s my favorite place to shop! And…I have taken you there with me at least a dozen times over the past four years. But this time it was their turn to treat us…a lucky group of bloggers, including my neighbor Babs at Upstairs Downstairs and me…to a wonderful brunch and a chance to shop before they opened. You know I was in heaven!

001 And not only that…but they had created a special gift bag for each of us, filled with fabulous goodies! Aren’t they wonderful? And…each one was identified by our initials!

012 As always, I loved every minute I was there…admiring the booths filled with wonderful spring colors!

010And once again, when I got home I realized I had photographed my current favorites! Can you tell that I am in the midst of a tray obsession? I love the shabby finish on this one!

013 And who could resist this gorgeous vintage rooster tray! And on the subject of eggs…

027 …I fell in love with this fabulous vintage egg holder…so unique!

030 Now you know how I love pillows so it should be no surprise that this cute bunny caught my eye!

022 And of course…ever in search of frenchiness…I love the texture of this French grain sack pillow!

019 Aren’t these fabulous…real French canisters in my favorite color combination!

032 And I love this wonderful French toile settee…such pretty details!

017 And even more frenchiness…this fabulous Anduze pot! Are you seeing what I mean about shopping with a theme in mind? lol

028 And I cannot take you to the Queen of Hearts without swinging by one of my favorite booths…filled to the brim with transferware in every color…and this is only a small portion of it! Breathtaking!
I wish to thank the owner of the Queen of Hearts, Stacey Anderson, her wonderful staff and vendors who made us feel so special and gave us the royal treatment! It was such a fun event! And of course, I will go back…as I always do…and take you along with me for more shopping…virtual and otherwise! See you next time! A la prochaine!
